Aziz Sancar is a Turkish doctor, academician, biochemist, molecular biologist and scientist.
He was born in 1946 in the Savur district of Mardin Province. He is the first Turkish scientist
who is selected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences along with Mehmet Özdoğan.
Sancar is best known for his works on DNA repair and he got the Nobel Prize in Chemistry
in 2015 for his researches on that field.
The words “maxicell technique” and “excinuclease/excision nuclease enzyme” (developed
and named by Aziz Sancar) entered the Oxford University Biochemistry and Molecular
Biology Dictionary in England.

Now, he is the co-founder of the Aziz&Gwen Sancar Foundation to promote Turkish culture
